This suggestion of only 21 days without charter license may not be sufficient to encourage foreign-flagged yachts to reposition to Greece or to homeport in Greece. Greece should abolish the cabotage and invite free movement for commercial vessels, regardless of size as with most other EU Member States. France, Italy and Spain have profited from repeated chartering of foreign-flagged yachts in their waters - from provisioning, dockage, agent services and VAT paid on the charter fee. There would be every reason to believe that the same would be the case in Greece. The bizarre requirement to start and end in either Albania or Turkey has discouraged many of my clients from chartering in Greece. A simple and transparent VAT structure would be well received.
