I am of Greek descent, family Rodocanachi of Chios. I have lived in Greece on and off for 12 years. These proposals spell the doom of Greece. Instead of moving forwards, you are going backwards to join countries like Romania and Bulgaria, countries where animals are worth nothing. You have to realise that a lot of tourism in Greece is from UK, Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Austria. All these countries LOVE animals and deplore the neglect seen, and the cruelty. I want to stay long term again, BUT if you DO NOT ALLOW pets to accompany tourists or ex pats, then I will NEVER return. My animals are more important to me than Greece, and it makes me sad to have to say that in 2013. As for crematoria in each municipality, it sounds like a horror story from the past. Greece the country that gave us civilisation now going towards barbarism and savagery of the past. You are part of the EU, you should not be allowed to consider making such detrimental, and frankly obscene, plans for pets, strays and visiting animals. If you want your economy to recover this is about the best way to make sure it WILL NOT. Because we won't stand by and let this happen, and if it takes boycotts and media attention, then that is what will happen. Deplorable, my country of origin and I am beginning to feel very ashamed of the people in power now. Have you not got better things to do than obliterate and torture/murder animals. 2013, cannot believe Greece is acting like a third world country of Romania.
